Summer Trips for Your Jeep in Dallas

Summer is the perfect time to get in your Jeep and explore off-road trails and off-highway vehicle (OHV) parks in the North Texas area. Before heading out, take your Jeep into a shop that specializes in Jeep repairs and modifications to ensure it's in good working order so you'll have peace of mind that your vehicle is ready for a summer trip.

Northwest OHV Park

Northwest OHV Park is just under 80 miles from Dallas, making this off-road park one of the closest to the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex area. Whether you're looking for hardcore off-road or easy trails, you'll find over 25 miles of trails at this 300-acre OHV park, each rated by degree of difficulty. Northwest OHV Park is family-friendly, and you're welcome to camp overnight in the designated dry-camping areas on Friday and Saturday evenings for free. Day passes are available for purchase online through Bridgeport's Parks and Recreation website.

Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area

If you drive a little over two hours east of Dallas toward Gilmer, you'll find the Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area. This OHV park offers riders 1,850 acres of trails on varied terrain, perfect for taking your Jeep on off-road adventures. The park has trails exclusively for motorcycles, ATVs, and any off-roading or four-wheel-drive vehicle.

Because the Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area is associated with the Texas Motorized Trail Coalition, you'll find well-marked trails depicting the route and degree of difficulty. In addition, the park has several vault toilets and primitive campsites throughout the property, along with a campground with electrical hookups, hot showers, and full bathhouses. You can even rent one of the cabins or bunkhouses for a more luxurious camping experience. See the BMRA's website for a full list of day usage and camping fees.

Creekside Offroad Ranch

Creekside Offroad Ranch is less than four hours south of Dallas and offers a wide range of off-road recreational opportunities. Take your Jeep to this OHV park and drive through mud or sand, over challenging rocks and boulders, and across creeks for all levels of off-roading travel. Peach Creek runs through the middle of this 350-acre park, and you can cool off in the water after a day of adventuring. Plan on spending a day or two here in one of several RV campsites with full hookups or primitive campsites for rugged adventures. Day and camping rates apply.
