1963 356 B “Twin Grille” 1600
This car was originally delivered to it’s US Dealer in California on 22 December 1962, none other than the infamous Competition Motors of Hollywood. After finding its way to its first owner the car resided in Phoenix AZ for most of its life where in the late 90’s the car made its way to Oklahoma. The car is complete with factory Kardex paperwork, and confirms its original color of 6210 to be Smyrna Green with Silver Leather interior. A rare color even by todays offerings, this car was repainted in its life a number of different colors with the latest being a white incarnation. More interesting still is the Addition in the paperwork for a factory warranty claim after the car was one month old and the engine had a terminal failure. The car was fitted under warranty with a replacement unit. The number of this warranty engine is still present today in the car, and can be seen running in the video attached, so to all intents and purposes numbers matching as per Porsche paperwork.
The floors of the car have some rust in the rear and some pin holing in the fronts, expect to replace these or at minimum patch them. The front tub is in good shape but the front floor area will need replacing due the battery leaking and rotting this area out – the usual spot. It has the usual dents and dings associated with a car of its age, and is sold as a reforestation project. Again, a great basis to start with, with good paperwork.
The wiring harness has dry rotted so we installed a temporary motor harness just to hear it running. It selects all gears with no issues and runs very well on a gas bottle. This is a great chance to obtain a rare optioned later 356 for restoration.
